Teachers/Educators,
We know how hard you’re working right now in the face of extraordinary circumstances and constraints. We wanted to reach out to let you know about our free programs that may benefit your classroom and to let you know we are here to support you and your students. The Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) Educational Outreach (EO) Office has a variety of in-person/virtual/hybrid programs available, including Wizards of Wright (WOW!), Virtual Classroom Speakers, as well as our Virtual Science Fair Program. Historically our programs relied on volunteers being welcomed into schools, but due to the obstacles schools were dealing with due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we recognized that inviting volunteers into classrooms for STEM Programs may not be plausible. Keeping the WPAFB EO Programs at the forefront of STEM resources, we adapted our programs to be deliverable both in-person and virtually in March 2020 and it continues to be a valuable option for teachers.
Wizards of Wright! (WOW!) Remote Lessons – WOW! in the Classroom lessons are presented directly to students through Zoom or Google Meet. These lessons can include the materials, necessary for the hands-on activities, delivered to the school a few days before the scheduled class. This enables teachers to have an opportunity to go through the materials and set them up in a way that works best for them. At the scheduled time, our WPAFB expert will lead the lesson from the WOW! office over the planned video conferencing platform, directly to the students. Our volunteer presents our lesson, works through the activities with the students, and interacts with the students, all while they experience an educational session.
We invite all teachers to visit our website to see the lessons available to them: http://wpafbstem.com/pages/wow_classroom.html

Virtual Career Speakers- Students can engage remotely with some of Wright-Patt’s finest employees by requesting Virtual Classroom Speaker sessions. Whether it’s a STEM focus at lunchtime, study hall, or class period, we want to assist you and your students! Sessions can last up to an hour. In most sessions, the volunteer presents for 30-45 minutes and is followed by 15-20 minutes of Q&A. There is no minimum or maximum number of students required to submit a request. All sessions will be monitored and recorded by a WPAFB Educational Outreach staff member. All requests MUST come from a teacher or school staff member.
We encourage you to view previous sessions: WPAFB Educational Outreach Office (wpafbstem.com)

Virtual Science Fair Judges- Many science fairs have gone from in-person to a virtual format, and we can help you with securing judges! Employees at Wright-Patterson AFB often volunteer to judge for local K-12 fairs. Our volunteers are interested in judging both in-person or virtually .
